House Bill 568, which will provide training for peace officers for interactions with people with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, has passed through both chambers of the Texas Legislature and is headed to the desk of Texas. Gov. Greg Abbott.
The bill, authored by Rep. Rhetta Andrews Bowers, D-Garland, received support from law enforcement, criminal justice reform advocates and brain health communities.
“I am delighted that HB 568, a bill with the potential to save lives and improve community safety, has passed the Senate to head to the Governor. I owe a great deal of gratitude to Senator José Menendez, our Senate Companion and Sponsor, for championing this issue. I am also thankful for the support of organizations like the Alzheimer’s Association and Sheriffs Association that came together to lift up and advocate for this legislation,” said Bowers.
