The State Board of Education on Thursday began a yearslong process of creating an approved textbook list for schools after the Texas Legislature passed a bill this spring that puts more power over classroom materials into the board’s hands.
The board’s process comes after lawmakers raised concerns during the legislative session about students’ performance statewide and emphasized a need for high-quality instructional materials.
It will take years for the state board to roll out the full intent of the new law, House Bill 1605.
